Establishing a business in Zimbabwe

Setting up a business in Zimbabwe is straightforward. This section will guide you through the main steps and what you need to know to successfully establish your business in Zimbabwe.

Step 1

Register a business checklist

Our checklist provides you with all you need to know to register your business. 

A list of 5 possible names for Name search. This process is done online on www.zimeservices.pfms.gov.zw

1. A minimum of two (2) directors and a maximum of fifty (50):

  • Full names
  • Residential Addresses
  • Identity numbers or Passport Numbers

2. Shareholders list

3. Business Address

4. Objects of the Company

5. Application fee

Client to lodge its Charter, Statutes or Memorandum and Articles of Association or Constitution or defining its constitution and, if the instrument is in a foreign language, certified translation thereof, cr5, cr6 and cr25 to the Minister who will issue a certificate.

Stage 2

Minister forwards the above-mentioned documents to the Registrar of Companies together with the Certificate, CR5 (principal place of business), CR6 (details of directors and principal officer) who will be resident in Zimbabwe), CR25 (a list of documents submitted for registration). 

Client to pay a flat fee of USD$1,100.

After all requirements are met, the Registrar issues a Certificate of Registration of a foreign company.

Step 2

Apply for a ZIDA Investor License

International and local companies can choose to apply for a General Investment License with ZIDA.   This provides protections to investors under the ZIDA Act (2020) and gives access to our One Stop Information Services Centre (OSISC) which can assist you secure all the necessary permit and approval to get your business up and running quickly, including assistance with VISAs. ZIDA Licenses are issued is under 7 days from application.

Step 3

Immigration Permit Requirements

  1. Residence permit application form (I.F 5) fully completed
  2. Application letter addressed to the CDI requesting for residence permit
  3. Certified passport bio data page
  4. 2 Passport sized photos certified as a true likeness of applicant
  5. Project proposal
  6. Police clearance from country of origin/last permanent residence
  7. Radiological certificate
  8. Banking history from country of origin /last permanent residence
  9. Proof of funds available for transfer
  10. Proof of equipment to be imported
  11. Copies of passport biodata and permit for other foreign shareholders
  12. List of expatriates and local employees
  13. Statutory non-refundable fee of US$500 and $300/dependent
  14. Company documents (CR6, CR14, ZIDA licence, Memorandum and Articles of Association, ZIMRA tax clearance)
  1. Residence permit application form (I.F 5) fully completed
  2. Temporary Employment Application form
  3. Application letter addressed to the CDI requesting for TEP
  4. Certified passport bio data page
  5. Passport sized photos certified as a true likeness of applicant
  6. Curriculum Vitae
  7. Contract of employment
  8. Notarized academic and professional certificates
  9. Statutory non-refundable fee of US$500 and $300/dependent
  10. Radiological certificate
  11. Advertisement in local newspaper
  12. CV for shortlisted candidates including their contact details
  13. CV and qualifications of  persons identified to do understudy
  14. Police clearance from country of origin/last permanent residence
  15. Company documents (CR6, CR14, ZIDA licence, Memorandum and Articles of Association, ZIMRA tax clearance)

These vary with the Visa Category in which the country falls under. There are three distinct visa categories as follows;

Category A – no visa is required

Category B – visa is acquired at the port of entry

Category C – visa to be applied for prior to travel
